Sound Therapy

What is it?

There are many titles for it, ‘Sound Therapy’, ‘Sound Bath’, ‘Healing Sound Sessions’, are just a few. To explain what it is in a little more detail, I need to take you back to science and quantum physics, just for a moment.  All matter and psychological processes — attitudes, emotions, beliefs, and thoughts — are composed of energy. When applied to the human body, every atom, molecule, cell, tissue and body system is also composed of energy. When they are superimposed onto each other,  it creates what is known as the human energy field.  

Energy vibrations

All energy vibrates at a frequency.  As humans, we equally vibrate energetically at a particular frequency. The lower the frequency, the denser your energy, and the heavier your problems may feel. At this level, you may experience physical pain and discomfort, and feel heavy emotions and mental confusion. Psychically, your energy is darker.  Overall, your life takes on a negative quality. You may find it incredibly difficult to get through day to day tasks or to achieve goals.  

At the other end of the scale, the higher the frequency, the lighter you feel in your physical, emotional, and mental bodies. You find that you experience greater personal power, clarity, peace, love, and joy. You have little, if any, discomfort or pain in your physical body, and your emotions are easily dealt with. Your life flows with synchronicity,  and your energy is literally full of light!. Overall, your life takes on a positive quality.

You may have heard people talk of ‘raising their vibrations’, well this is what they are talking about!  You must raise your vibration in order to enjoy an abundance of all of the good stuff in life!  Optimal physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health.

Raising your vibration

It’s easy to get stuck.  In the modern world, our lives become so overwhelmed with ‘stuff’, we often forget to take a step back and re-evaluate. You matter too! If your fuel tank is empty, how do you expect to give to anyone else? 

What causes lower vibrational frequencies? Self hatred, self doubt, negativity, fear, toxic relationships, illness, excessive alcohol, addictions, lack of sleep, anxiety.  This list is not exhaustive, but you get the idea.  We all know people who ‘radiate’ joy.  They always light up a room when they enter, and everyone wants to be around them.  Equally, we all know people who do the opposite.  I call them ‘mood hoovers’.   The good news is, it is within your power to raise your vibration. How? Here are a few suggestions:

All of these things can help, but in my opinion the last 3 are the most powerful.  Some people can  find it very difficult to meditate as it can be a task to calm the mind enough to relax. However,  millions of people benefit from the power of daily meditation. It frees your mind, and allows your body and mind to readjust back to the equilibrium of life. 

Sound Therapy

Sound therapy is probably the most powerful of all. Why? Well, because you don’t have to ‘do’ anything. That’s why it’s called a sound bath. You literally bathe in the sound. The vibrations of the sounds resonate deep inside you.  Sound healing synchronizes brain waves to achieve profound states of relaxation, helping to restore the normal vibratory frequencies of the cells in our bodies.  When you think about the role our cells are responsible for throughout our body, it’s clearly important that they are healthy.  The fastest way to affect your cells is through vibration.  When a cell is healthy and balanced, it is said to vibrate at its optimum frequency. Through Reiki, we talk about Chakras. Every Chakra has note.  If you bathe in the note of each Chakra, you will feel the vibration of that Chakra inside you as it resonates with the note being played, helping to clear your blocked energy and restore your natural balance. Quite simply it is the most remarkable feeling I have ever experienced, and essentially,  can raise your vibration quite substantially. 

The health benefits of sound baths are well documented and extensive, including:  Improved sleep, lower stress levels, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, relief from numerous other physical and emotional ailments. After all, if you’re raising your vibration higher and higher, the benefits will just become more and more apparent for you.  As you relax into a sound bath, you’re essentially allowing your body and mind to be cleared from all the clutter and restore your natural balance.

I offer sessions in a group class setting for a ‘sound bath’, with the use of a variety of sounds using singing bowls and gongs.
